Preview-a-Book has been the largest aggregator and distributor of in print book excerpts for nearly 20 years. The company was launched under the name Dial-a-Book in 1993 by Stanley and Betty Greenfield. The Greenfields spent many years speaking with publishers about the value of excerpts, and in many ways, their work was well ahead of its time. Firebrand welcomed Dial-a-Book into our family of publishing services in 2014.

Now with a fresh emphasis on online content, we license a database of more than 400,000 excerpts of current titles. Booksellers, distributors, libraries, and bibliographic information sources worldwide use Preview-a-Book’s excerpts in their online catalogs, including:

Preview-a-Book takes books (hardcopy, PDF files, EPUB files, or ONIX files containing excerpts) and converts them to formats that our customers want (HTML, XML). Our excerpts are all received with the full permission of the publisher, and contain copyright holder information for proper citation. Our database is also crawled by major search engines, helping improve a book’s ranking in search engine results.

Preview-a-Book is free to publishers. All you do is fill out our permission form and send us your EPUB or PDF files and we take care of the rest.
