The Secret to Book Publisher Efficiency—5 Powerful Benefits of Product Search in Firebrand’s Title Management

Book publishers manage vast amounts of data—from title metadata and production specs to contracts, marketing details, and so much more. The ability to quickly search, organize, and export this information isn’t just convenient, it’s essential to keeping workflows efficient and teams on track.

Firebrand’s Title Management application makes this easy. Nearly every field can be searched, filtered, and exported. Plus, stacking multiple criteria allows publishers to build targeted reports and save detailed searches for future use.

Below are five powerful benefits of Title Management’s Product Search, along with some tips to help current Title Management customers get the most from the system.

1. Pulling a Specific List of ISBNs

Sometimes, you might get a list of ISBNs from a colleague for a project—titles for a trade show, products with rights expiring soon, titles flagged for metadata updates, etc. Manually looking up each title can quickly become time-consuming.

With Title Management’s Product Search, you can paste the entire list of ISBNs into the search field and instantly retrieve matching titles in the exact order provided using the “Ordered ISBN” criteria. This makes it easy to review, edit, or export the data. It works in reverse, too. Any search you run can instantly generate an ISBN list with the “Export Identifier Listbutton, making it easy to hand off curated lists to colleagues.

Remember: When searching for a list of ISBNs, use the “One Of”modifier to ensure that every ISBN listed is featured in the results. ISBNs can be separated by commas, semicolons or even just a space.

2. Missing Fields and Assets

Incomplete metadata can be a silent killer for book discoverability. Title Management’s Product Search makes it easy to locate titles with missing BISACs, keywords, images, and other critical data—that way, you can fill in the gaps before they affect your sales or marketing efforts.

You can even pair these searches with time-sensitive filters, like: Titles with pub dates in the next 30 days AND no cover image

This approach helps you catch missing assets before key deadlines arrive.

Example Search; Titles missing BISAC subjects

  • BISAC Status—Equals—Not Yet Published
  • Book Verification Type — Equals — First Pass Verification
  • Book Verification Status—Equals—Failed
  • Book Verification Message Type—Equals—Missing BISAC subject
  • (Optional) Pub Date—Range—9/1/2025 to 9/30/2025

3. Advanced Search Modifiers

Title Management gives publishers the flexibility to build searches that go far beyond a single data point. Nearly every field in the system can be searched using advanced modifiers, allowing you to quickly combine multiple criteria for highly targeted results.

Examples of search modifiers:

  • Age Range—Greater Than—12
  • Legacy Territory—Equals—Worldwide
  • Audience—One Of—Young Adult, Children/Juvenile, College/HigherEd
  • Keyword—Contains—Holiday

By stacking these modifiers with existing seasonal lists (and other search criteria), publishers can pinpoint sales and marketing opportunities in seconds, as well as act on them before they slip through the cracks—such as:

Merchandising Themes—Equals—Mother’s Day AND Product Availability—Equals—Awaiting Stock

4. Helping Your Team to Stay On Track

In book publishing, missing just one deadline can derail workflows and sometimes cause significant delays. Title Management’s Product Search lets publishers easily track products and tasks they’re responsible for—quickly spotting overdue items, incomplete tasks, or other red flags.

Publishing teams can search for:

  • Products and tasks that specific staff members are assigned to
  • Titles with production tasks past their due date
  • Titles missing critical data needed before launch

By surfacing these issues early, you can prioritize tasks, coordinate with your team, and keep every product on track for a smooth publication.

5. Efficient Navigation and Function

Managing large search results is much easier when your tools work for you. Title Management includes features that streamline navigation, exporting, and customization.

Quick ways to work smarter in Product Search:

  • Click any search result and use the navigation arrowsin the Easy Bar (< and >) to cycle through titles one at a time.
  • Select Export—Excel to download your search results, with the columns you are viewing, as a .csv file.

  • Save search results in your own custom search results lists; these saved searches will appear under the Saved Search Results dropdown, making it easier to come back to them later .
