Data Scientist

You are an ideal candidate for this position if you have:

  • A high degree of intellectual curiosity. For you, questions beget more questions. You are interested in the relationships between seemingly unrelated pieces of information. You enjoy drawing hypotheses and testing them with data.
  • Confidence to tackle problems with little or no direction, and still deliver great results.
  • Expert data munging skills. You can extract, clean, and join data from any storage format known to man, including but not limited to SQL, NoSQL, Excel, CSV, JSON, HTML, etc.
  • Strong communication and data visualization skills. You can clearly present findings in whatever manner is appropriate for the project at-hand; i.e. verbal, written, visual, or through dashboard apps.
  • Working knowledge of statistical/analytical/algorithmic techniques such as regression, classification, prediction, clustering, social network analysis, and natural language processing. You know how and when to use the right tools for the job.
  • An aptitude and desire to learn new skills, technologies, API’s, or algorithms when the need arises.
  • Strong coding skills in a scripting language such as Python or R.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of MVC, C# .Net, and SQL Server
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of web services and protocols, REST API design, PHP, and the Symfony framework are helpful but not required

Work will be performed at our office in Newburyport, MA. Occasional work from home is a possibility once the team is comfortable with your independence and work ethic.

SQL Developer

The Firebrand Technologies Integration Team is looking for a motivated, ambitious, and tenacious SQL guru. We specialize in getting new publishing clients’ title data into our Title Management application, as well as build and support tools that help us do this as efficiently as possible. As a new member of the team, you’ll be managing your own project queue while under the tutelage of more senior members.

We are interested in a developer who understand the process of software development, including the importance of development, test, and production environments, and responsibilities inherent in each. If you consider winding your way through several layers of code and hitting some land mines along the way a good time, then we want to work with you. We encourage creativity and ingenuity and hope you can teach us a few tricks of your own, when appropriate.

A general sense of pride and accountability in your work are necessary to become successful in this position, as is the desire to meet high quality standards. Our clients are very dear to us and we go above and beyond to make sure that their needs are met. Our small team has the luxury of working outside of strict engineering guidelines but needs to remain disciplined and conscious of the big picture.   • Effectively communicate status of projects
  • Work closely with publishing clients

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 to 5 years experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL 2005/2008 databases and T-SQL programming is required
  • Experience with web design and related technologies, such as ASP.NET, C#, and Visual Studio, is a plus
  • Experience with Crystal Reports is a plus
